Section 67 of the OH&S Act 2004 entitles all elected Health & Safety Reps and Deputy Health & Safety Reps who have completed a 5 Day Initial OHS Training Course to attend a 1 Day Refresher Training Course each year to keep their knowledge of OHS law and practice up-to-date.
This training particularly provides HSRs and DHSRs with an understanding of the health and safety issues arising from incidents of work-related gendered violence and the confidence, skills and knowledge to represent their co-workers (ie. their designated working group) when raising health and safety concerns in relation to work-related gendered violence.
The Refresher course covers:
- Legislative update on the Victorian OHS 2004 Act, OHS Regulations 2017, WorkSafe compliance codes and guides.
- Consultation, communication, representation and problem solving.
- Hazard identification and control with either manual handling, work-related stress, incident investigation or hazard mapping.
- Gendered violence - definitions, impacts and injury
- Identifying risks, risk assessment, prevention and the hierarchy of control
- Resolving issues
Work-related gendered violence including sexual harassment is a serious occupational health and safety issue that can be addressed under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004.
