Union movement welcomes work from home start date

Victorian Trades Hall Council welcomes today’s announcement that the Allan Government will legislate the right to work from home with a start date of 1 September this year.

Hundreds of thousands of Victorian workers already enjoy the time and cost savings afforded by working from home. It’s now time to extend that right to every Victorian who is able to.

Protecting the right to work from home is a simple change that means the world to thousands of Victorians and their families. It means less time stuck in traffic, more time with family and friends, and the flexibility many Victorians need to juggle work, family commitments and being an active member of their community.

Quotes attributable to Luke Hilakari, Secretary Victorian Trades Hall Council:

Victorian workers have made it clear that the right to work from home is extremely important, and we won’t stand by and watch it slowly slip away from us.

I’m glad the Allan Government has listened to Victorian workers, and is taking decisive action to protect the right to work from home in law.

Work from home suits some Victorians, but benefits ALL Victorians.

We know Victorian workers want the right to work from home. We know the Allan Government is prepared to legislate for it. What we don’t know is whether Jess Wilson’s Liberal Party will help make this happen, or follow the disastrous lead of Peter Dutton and risk losing another election on this issue.
