Our Project
Building safer, fairer, more equal workplaces together.
We believe every worker should be safe, supported, and respected on the job. But right now, too many women still face inequality, exclusion, or harm at work, especially in industries shaped by rigid gender roles or outdated expectations.
Whether it’s being the only woman on site, missing out on progression opportunities, or facing unsafe conduct in customer-facing roles: gender still defines too much of our experience at work.
That’s why we created Workplaces for Women. Together, we’re tackling gender inequality at its roots, challenging workplace cultures, and making real change, industry by industry.
What is Workplaces for Women?
Workplaces for Women is a Victorian Trades Hall Council initiative to prevent gender-based violence, gendered harm and address gender inequality at work.
It brings together two key projects under one shared vision:
Male-Dominated Industries
We’re supporting workers in sectors like manufacturing, transport, logistics and warehousing, where isolation, exclusion, hostile cultures and barriers to progression are still widespread.
Hospo: A High-Risk Industry
We’re working with workers and venues in the hospitality sector to address gender-based violence and exploitation. We want to build a culture of respect, safety, and equality from the floor to the bar to the back-of-house.
Though different in focus, both projects share the same goal: creating workplaces where women and gender diverse people are safe, included, respected and empowered.
