Unique spaces for parties, performances, protests and more
Victorian Trades Hall is a heritage listed historic venue on the CBD fringe with a variety of options for creative events.
Walk in the footsteps of giants of Australia's history such as John Curtin, Bob Hawke and Zelda D'Aprano, admire murals dedicated to shipbuilders, felt hatters and lady confectioners, or join a historic tour or paranormal investigation looking for ghosts.
Each room at Trades Hall is steeped in history - where workers of times past met to debate the merits of federation, raise funds for striking stockmen at Wave Hill, distribute subversive literature, and celebrate victories over the bosses.
Bullet holes, stone worn under the tread of hobnail boots, and impact marks from loose kegs of beer adorn our central staircase.
This is a working union building, the world's oldest continuing trades hall and still the spiritual home of Victoria's working-class activist movement. Elected representatives of each union meet monthly here to plan the campaigns that improve your working life. At night, fringe shows, comedy performers take the stages around the building and visitors admire works in the galleries.
We work with external caterers to run events of every description. Weddings, meetings, training, galas and cocktail events can be facilitate in a range of spaces of various size. Our partners, Fringe, run a bar in Common Rooms and cater licensed events upstairs.
Welcome comrade, to Trades Hall.
