The Victorian Trades Hall Council (VTHC) congratulates Tim Pallas on his retirement and extends our congratulations for his decades of tireless service and dedication to improving the lives of working people in Victoria.
Throughout his career, Tim has been an ally of the labour movement in Parliament, ensuring that fairness, dignity, and respect are at the heart of industrial relations in our state.
Tim’s leadership was instrumental in introducing Australia’s first wage theft laws, laying the groundwork for national legislation. Tim also ensured Victoria lead the country in supporting on-demand workers and the expansion of family violence leave.
Tim’s commitment to Victorian workers can be seen through his leadership in cracking down on the exploitative labour hire industry and in implementing new rights including portable long service benefits for workers.
Under Tim’s leadership, Victoria has been the best state to work and live with unprecedented investments in infrastructure providing record numbers of jobs and keeping Victoria moving.
His commitment to social justice and equity has set a high standard that future leaders should embrace.
Victorian Trades Hall Council Secretary Luke Hilakari said:
“As Industrial Relations Minister, Treasurer and Minister for Economic Growth, Tim has often found himself at the negotiating table with Victorian unions. Victorian unions have been able to trust Tim as an honest broker, negotiating in good faith and with the best interests of Victorians at heart.”
“Tim never sought the limelight for his achievements or contributions - indeed the opposite. He simply wanted to get the job done, efficiently and effectively, for the workers of Victoria.”
“We hope that his work will inspire a new generation of leaders committed to the cause of working people and improving their lives.”
“The Victorian Trades Hall Council wishes him a fulfilling and rewarding retirement.”
