Submission into Victoria's Planning Provisions Amendments

Increasing the stock of affordable and high-quality housing is a critical priority for Victorian workers. Victorian unions' submission to the Inquiry on Victoria's Planning Provisions Amendments expressed support for the Government's proposals and the importance of reforming the planning code to address the housing crisis.

Victorian unions welcomed the opportunity to participate in the Victorian Parliament’s Select Committee on Victoria Planning Provision Amendments VC257, VC267 and VC274.

Today, VTHC remains committed to improving workers’ access to quality and affordable housing. The median dwelling price in Melbourne stands at $778,000, nearly eleven times the average workers’ weekly ordinary earnings. On 2021 census night, 30,000 Victorians were without a home. VTHC is committed to supporting measures that will improve the stock of well-connected and high-quality housing in the state. All levels of government need to get on with the job of building more housing for workers.

Victorian unions’ overarching recommendation provided to this Inquiry was to call on the Committee to support the proposed amendments to the planning code.
