The Friends of the Hall are supporters of the trade union movement who bequest in their will a gift to the Victorian Trades Hall Council to support our work.
With your generous support, we can continue to fight for workers and to continue to organise for a fair and equal Victoria.
Since the victorious 8-hours campaign, Victorian Trades Hall has been the centre of workers organising to make positive change for workers and their families in Victoria. Every generation of unionists works to build on the victories of the previous, knowing that we still have a world to win.
By leaving a gift in your will to Victorian Trades Hall Council, you will be ensuring that union members will have the resources to continue the fight for workers and our rights into the future and to ensure that Victoria has a strong working class.

Victorian Trades Hall is the oldest Trades and Labour Council in Australia and is the oldest continuously operating Trades Hall in the world and continues to be run by workers and the union movement.
Trades Hall is where workers in Victoria discussed the merits of Federation, won the campaign against conscription, raised funds for the striking Aboriginal communities at Wave Hill, planned activism for Equal Pay, quilted squares memorialising comrades lost to AIDS, moved motions to disrupt South African apartheid, campaigned for marriage equality, and a whole lot more in between.
Workers in Victoria have gathered at Trades Hall to discuss everything and anything – from great questions of state to the passion projects of individual unionists. Trades Hall is where workers and unionists come when collective power is required or when big questions need to be discussed, debated and answered.
Victorian Trades Hall must continue to be the place where workers can debate the issues of the day and exercise our collective power. By leaving a gift in your will to Victorian Trades Hall Council you will be ensuring that our Trades Hall remains in workers hands and continues to be a place where change is made.
There are different ways that you can leave a gift in your will. You can specify any amount or percentage of your estate to VTHC, after you have looked after your family, friends and loved ones.
Residual gifts leaves the remainder or a proportion of the remainder of your estate to VTHC after your family, friends and loved ones have been looked after and all expenses and claims have been paid. Unlike a cash sum, inflation will not diminish the value of a residual gift.
You can divide your estate amongst a number of people and/or organisation. Your gift to VTHC can be a percentage or proportion of the whole of your estate, or of what is left over (the residue) after individual gifts have been made.
You can leave a specific asset such as property to VTHC.
You can leave a cash sum of your choosing to VTHC.
When preparing your will it is important to speak to an expert in preparing a will. Most unions provide access to free will services. They will be able to guide you on how to make sure your wishes are adhered to after you’re gone.
