This month we marked Extreme Heat Awareness Day, highlighting that everyone deserves security and protection from bushfires, heatwaves and extreme weather. As extreme weather intensifies, workers also need to be safe and comfortable in their homes, especially when additional comfort also means cheaper power bills and independence from energy companies. 

That’s why Victorian unions are helping workers to access cheap and affordable power at home. 

Cheaper Homes for Workers Campaign 

We are here to help union members, retired union members, and workers work out what would benefit them most and start or continue their electrification journey. There are several rebates and discounts available to upgrade your home with rooftop solar, reverse-cycle air conditioning, home batteries, draught-proofing, insulation and many other efficient, electric products. Our Cheaper Homes Organiser can help you access these rebates and start or continue your electrification journey.

We can help renters too! Renters shouldn't be left behind in the clean energy revolution. If you’re a renter, you can also access discounts on efficient appliances and we can give help contact your landlord to make the case for upgrades, and to inform them of new minimum rental standards coming next year. 

We are especially interested in speaking with workers and retired workers in the Western and Northern suburbs of Melbourne. Workers in these areas are far more likely to experience the Urban Heat Island Effect due to lack of public tree cover.
