This summer, young workers are facing a hellish summer in our shitty rentals.
With temperatures predicted to break heat records, our rental housing has no requirement for cooling and often has the energy efficiency of a tent. And this is all while many of us are paying outrageous prices that real estate agents and landlords just raised by hundreds of dollars a month! Let's just say things are COOKED.
That's why for our October Solidarity Night, we will be looking at how young people can collectively fight for better rentals!
We are super excited to be joined by Jordie van den Berg aka PurplePingers from ShitRentals.org and by Sweltering Cities, an organisation that is working directly with communities in Australia’s hot suburbs to campaign and advocate for more liveable, equitable and sustainable cities, to chat about the current situation and how we build power so we can survive the summer and win better rentals through collective action! We will also be joined by the Renters and Housing Union (RAHU) about how a union can bring about change for renters, just like in the workplace!
Drinks and snacks provided!
