1500 WOOLWORTHS WAREHOUSE WORKERS START INDEFINITE STRIKE ACTION
They're also fighting a dehumanising, intrusive surveillance and algorithm-based management system called "The Framework" that monitors their every movement while they work, holds them to unachievable work rates, and allocates casuals' shifts based on adherence to these targets. When you're lifting tonnes of goods 9m into the air on a forklift, that's a recipe for disaster. Forcing workers to cut corners and risk their safety in order to keep their jobs is outrageous.
Under 'the Framework', there is a serious risk to the health and safety of warehouse workers, in an already dangerous industry. Workers can face disciplinary action in they don't meet 100% of the Framework's pick rates. Warehouse workers have already been raising these issues in the media, including The Guardian, The Project. and The Conversation.
Worker solidarity needed
As a grocery customer, you can tell CEO Amanda Bardwell to commit to scrapping the Framework!
Warehouse workers are telling us they are having to sacrifice their own safety and mental wellbeing in order to meet pick rates set by the Framework. They have to cut corners out of fear of being disciplined.
If workers fail to meet their pick-rates, they are placed on a 12-week performance review where their manager shadows their every move. Woolworths needs to start treating their workers like human beings, and end 'the Framework' now!
