Exhibition Launch: 28 April
Exhibition runs 28 April - 26 May, 10am-3pm
On 24 April 2013, the eight-storey Rana Plaza building in Dhaka, Bangladesh, collapsed. The owners of a number of garment factories in the building had ignored basic safety regulations and forced workers to keep working when it was clear the walls were cracking. The confirmed death toll was 1,130. Approximately 2,500 injured people were rescued.
Join us as we commemorate the workers killed and injured at Rana Plaza through this evocative photo exhibition, hosted by Victorian Trades Hall. The exhibition displays the work of celebrated photo-journalist, Taslima Akhter, who was on the ground at Rana Plana just hours after the collapse, capturing the devastation caused by capitalist greed for profits over the lives of workers.
