Nuclear Power & Radiation Risks: What Workers Need to Know

Join us for a webinar to hear from an international expert on the radiation risks posed to workers and community from nuclear reactors and nuclear waste.

Earlier this year, Peter Dutton proposed building nuclear reactors in Australia, including in the Latrobe Valley. Australian unions are concerned at the high cost and project length of establishing nuclear reactors in this country, as well as substantial concerns for the health of workers who will be exposed to ionising radiation emitted from nuclear reactors and their waste sites.

Join this seminar to hear from radiation biologist and independent consultant Dr Ian Fairlie. Ian has worked as a consultant to the British Government and was the scientific secretary of the British Government's Commission for investigation of radiation risks of internal emitters (CERRIE). He is currently Vice President of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in the UK and their scientific adviser.

The best scientific evidence says there is no safe level of radiation exposure. Increased rates of cancers, cardio-vascular and other diseases, dementia and long-term genetic effects on future generations are significant and unavoidable health risks that will result from occupational exposures to ionising radiation.
