Comcare HSR OHS Training Courses
Section 72 of the Commonwealth Work Health and Safety Act 2011 entitles all elected HSRs and Deputy HSRs to undertake a course of training of their choice approved by Comcare Australia.
HSRs must attend a 5-day HSR Initial OHS course in order to excerise certain legal powers as a HSR, such as issuing Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) or directing workers to cease unsafe work. Every year thereafter HSRs are entitled to attend a 1-day Refresher course.
HSRs play a vital role in making workplaces safer by identifying hazards, raising concerns with management and representing workers on health and safety issues. To do this effectively, it’s essential that as a HSR you receive quality training that builds the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to exercise your powers under the Act.
VTHC is authorised to deliver both the Comcare HSR Initial OHS Training Course and the Comcare HSR Refresher OHS Training Course under the auspices of the Australian Council of Trade Unions.
Who falls under the Comcare WHS scheme?
Comcare oversees the Work Health and Safety (WHS) scheme. Health and Safety Representatives within Commonwealth entities, Australian Government authorities and agencies and private corporations licensed to self-insure their workers' compensation operate under the Comcare scheme and the Commonwealth Work Health and Safety Act 2011.
