I'm hosting a Yes Vote event for some of our Sri Lankan community in the Monash council region. I'm a volunteer for the Yes Campaign and attended the workshops to start the conversations. There will be some Indigenous speakers who will talk about the Referendum and what it means to vote 'Yes'. You are invited to ask questions about what the Constitution is, what the Referendum is about, how will the Voice to Parliament serve both Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians and how we can all look forward to a more modernised Australia.
The reggae band 'Reggae Riot' (4 piece) will play 3 sets, and the Women's Choir 'Shifting the Table' will sing 'Acknowledgment to Country'.
There will be Sri Lankan finger food for sale at the hall. Free coffee and tea will be served. BYO drinks (alcohol and non-alcohol permitted).
I invited Monique Ryan, Federal Minister of Parliament and representative of the Boroondara Electorate to speak, but she has apologised, since she is speaking on the Yes Campaign elsewhere. I am in the process of inviting other members of the Monash Council to speak about the Referendum.
We hope to see you there.
