Government Caves to Pressure From Women

Union women meeting with local Victorian MP's to discuss implementing the 55 recommendations of the Safe @ Work Report

Union women meeting with local Victorian MP's to discuss implementing the 55 recommendations of the Safe @ Work Report

A week ago union women descended on federal MPs' offices, demanding a commitment to action to end gendered violence at work by implementing the 55 recommendations of the Safe @ Work Report. There has been a groundswell of grassroots action that has finally forced the government to act.

Late last week, over a year after the release of the report, the Morrison Government made an announcement about the report. But the announcement merely expresses "in principle" support, or even just "notes" some of the recommendations. They are still talking over women; picking and choosing the policy solutions that are least inconvenient to them.

We intend to hold the government to account. They want to move on from this issue, but we won't settle for their fuzzy commitments. We will make workplaces safe for every woman in Australia. Are you with us?
