The Women's Rights at Work one-day training course provides those supporting, representing and advocating for women workers with the knowledge of various entitlements and protections, and the options for legislative action to be able to assist women workers. The course consolidates information on the rights and safety of women in the workplace, drawing from various pieces of State and Federal legislation, giving participants an understanding of the various ways they can support women in the workplace and the legislation they can draw upon when workers come to them with an issue. This is particularly important given the many significant amendments to legislation that have occurred over recent years.
The course is intended for Union-based Women's Officers, Industrial Officers, Organisers, Delegates and Women's Advocates.
In the course we will discuss:
- Legislative options under the Fair Work Act, including: entitlements when pregnant and returning to work; parental entitlements; leave entitlements; dealing with sexual harassment
- Human Rights-based legislation (state & federal) – focussing on positive duty obligations regarding discrimination, harassment, victimisation and hostile working environments
- How OHS legislation can be used to address gendered violence including sexual harassment
- Empowerment of women in the workplace through transparency requirements and job security provisions in recent legislative changes.
