High-quality training that is practical, solution-focused and WorkSafe approved.
Victorian HSRs' rights to training
When you’re elected as a Health and Safety Representative (HSR) or Deputy Health and Safety Representative (DHSR) for your Designated Work Group (DWG), you can immediately exercise all the powers and rights set out in the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004.
This includes raising health and safety issues with your employer, representing your DWG in consultations, and, if needed, issuing Provisional Improvement Notices (PINs) or directing unsafe work to cease.
The best way to hit the ground running is to get trained as soon as possible after your election. Training gives you the tools, knowledge, and confidence to represent your workmates effectively.
Under Section 67 of the OHS Act 2004 all elected HSRs and DHSRs are entitled to:
- Attend a 5-day WorkSafe-approved Initial OHS Training Course
- Attend a 1-day WorkSafe-approved Refresher OHS Training Course every year after completing the initial course
- Choose the course provider
- Attend during paid time
- Have your employer pay the course and associated costs
