This year for NAIDOC week, Trades Hall celebrates the invaluable and often overlooked contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ have given to our great movement. Our First Nations comrades are leaders, trailblazers, activists and social change advocates – and continue to fight to be the architects of their own lives and futures.
We are proud to be hosting a panel of incredible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander activists, including:
- Shareena Clanton - A proud Indigenous woman from Noongar Boodja (Noongar country). Her mother is Wongatha/Yamatji and Noongar/Gitja. Her father is Etowah Cherokee, Blackfoot and African American. Shareena Clanton is an actress and human rights advocate.
- Lara Watson - Birri Gubba woman from Central West Queensland & the Indigenous officer with the ACTU
- Panel chair Edie Shepherd, VTHC Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Organiser and Ballardung & Wiradjuri woman
- Further guests to be announced in the coming days
Join us as we listen to the insights of some staunch Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander warriors, as they unpack the complexity, tensions, and pathways forward to advance Black fights within settler-colonial structures. You will have plenty of time to ask your questions too!
